Dealstreet Asia: Google picks 7 Indonesian startups for Launchpad Program in US

Search engine giant Google concluded its screening of digital startups for its Launchpad Accelerator Program, choosing seven startups in Indonesia, including eight each in India and Brazil.

Google launched the program last December for the three emerging market countries as part of its efforts to help startups from around the world develop the world’s greatest apps.

The seven chosen startups in Indonesia are Jojonomic, Kakatu, HarukaEdu, Setipe, Kerjabilitas, Kurio, and eFishery. All teams will get an all-expense-paid training at Google Headquarters in Silicon Valley in Los Angeles, USA for six months and two weeks. The program is scheduled to kick off on January 18.

The teams will also get equity-free training of up to $50,000; access to Google engineers, resources, and mentors both during and after the program; as well as credits for Google products marketing spotlight opportunities.

Jojonomic is a fintech company with a mobile application that makes reimbursement and personal finance easy. Kakatu sets parental controls with Automatic Digital Rules for kids. HarukaEdu provides a turn-key solution to help universities go online and offer quality and affordable online degree programs. Setipe is an online matchmaking service for singles in Indonesia to have a private, safer and more effective place to meet other compatible singles.

Yet Kerjabilitas is a Web and Android based disability service that aims to connect job seekers with disabilities and inclusive employers. Kurio, meanwhile, is a smart news app to connect users with meaningful content and news suitable to their professional background or personal interest. However, eFishery attempts to disrupt the aquaculture industry by using technology to feed fish at scale.

The eight startups in India are Doormint, Hola Chef, JustRide, Nestaway, Super, Murmur, English Dost and FranklyMe.

The eight Brazil teams are AgroSmart, Cuponeria, Qranio, ProDeaf, Superplayer, UpBeat Games, Elo7, and Hand Talk.

The new accelerator will be part of Google’s existing Launchpad programme that was started in 2013. The company plans to bring about 50 of the most promising startups each year in the accelerator programme, and do hands-off mentoring to another 200 that will not go through the bootcamp. Startups that show more promise in the latter group will be made part of the full accelerator program.
