Senior UI Designer

We are currently seeking an energetic, creative, and hardworking Senior UI Designer to join our growing development team. The ideal candidate will be a key player in determining the future experiences of e-learning platform products.  We are looking for a visionary designer to break new ground in the field of Web-based user interface and application design. Most importantly, the right individual should be highly motivated, with a positive, “can-do” attitude and a passion for delivering technical solutions in a fast-paced environment. This position may be eligible for our Employee Stock Option Plan.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Working closely with our Operations Team to understand features and context for deliverables, such as sketching, wireframing, Photoshop mockups and high fidelity prototyping.
  • Having a strong end-user focus in order to identify for each user activity, the most likely scenario of usage, and proper motivation to engage the user in the solution being provided.
  • Sketching, designing, prototyping and working in collaboration with the other development team members to conceive and develop more usable and desirable products.
  • Working according to schedule and providing timely high fidelity prototypes.
  • Assisting Software Engineers with front-end and accessibility implementation of features.
  • Collaborating cross-functionally to audit and correct user interface bugs.

Core Required Skills/Experience:

  • Extensive rapid prototyping experience creating and iteratively refining a user interface design to achieve delightful user experiences both in static designs and in interactive HTML/CSS.
  • An outstanding body of work demonstrating UI solutions for the Web, desktop, and mobile applications.
  • Strong knowledge in Web 2.0 standards such as (X)HTML/CSS, Javascript, HTML 5, including cross browser compatibility and usability and accessibility.
  • Understand AJAX and Javascript, including the frameworks (jQuery, jQuery Mobile, Mootools, etc.).
  • Have a very strong sense of art, pixel perfect and good understanding of typography.
  • Expert knowledge of industry-standards graphic design tools and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Strong prototyping & visual skills.
  • A four-year college degree and three to five years of experience of user interface design and front-end development for Web, desktop, and mobile applications.
  • Some knowledge of web application development/programming in Linux, Apache, mySQL, and PHP (LAMP) environment is a plus.

  • Excellent communication skills, capable of conducting technical discussions in English, and great on keeping key stakeholders and others posted with appropriate levels of detail in a timely manner.
  • Previous work experience or willingness to work in a start-up environment.
  • Effective collaborator in a team work environment.
  • Strong management skill to deal with work assignments and meet deadlines under an aggressive schedule.
  • Able to translate business and design goals into usable product.
  • Problem solver with strong innovation skills.

Online Education Facts

In 2002, less than one-half (50%) of all higher education institutions reported online education was critical to their long-term strategy. In 2013, that number is close to seventy percent (70%).

edX and San Jose State University pilot a difficult circuits and electronic course. The result: 40% of student in the conventional class got a grade of C or lower, and only 9% in the blended edX class got such a lower grade.

The Indonesian government approved a new regulation to make it easier for higher education institutions to offer high quality online degrees: Peraturan Menteri Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan No. 24 Tahun 2012 (April 26th, 2012).

Mr. Boediono, Indonesia’s Vice President, requested the Minister of Education to continue developing the blue print for online education in Indonesia during an annual meeting with Presidents of all universities in Indonesia (January 28th, 2013).

71% of leaders of for-profit colleges and universities report that their institutions offer classes online, and more than half (54%) say these classes offer the same value as classes taken in person.
